GTA 6 has finally been officially confirmed by Rockstar. There is currently not much information, but thanks to numerous insider reports or gaming leaks, we know one or the other detail about the upcoming Rockstar game.

Everything we know unofficially about GTA 6 so far

Release: What are the forecasts for the release?

Regarding the release of GTA 6, various established industry and rock star insiders agree: GTA 6 will not come too soon and will be a few years away.

The well-known industry journalist Jason Schreier published a detailed report on the development of GTA 6 in April 2020. In it he says that the game would be in an “early stage” at this point – a concrete assessment of the release of the rock star game, however, Schreier did not deliver at the time.

This forecast is supported by established Rockstar experts such as Tez2 or Yan2295, who have already impressed with their insider knowledge in the past: They also predict that GTA 6 will definitely be a few years away.

GTA 6 is not in Game Pass at release

GTA 6 will not be available in Game Pass at launch – Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at this in an investor call in early August 2021 (via GameSpot). The publisher’s own games should be offered at full price for their respective release and not be added to a subscription model.

Since the publisher focuses mainly on large productions that require correspondingly good sales figures, one could recoup the costs much earlier. It makes sense for Take-Two to make old games available to players via a subscription model, but not to apply the same concept to new “flagship titles”.

Platforms: What could GTA 6 appear for?

The further away the release of GTA 6 is, the less likely it is that the game will appear on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. At the moment we are still in a transition phase of the console generations, in which both last-gen and current-gen are fueled. But it won’t last forever either.

So fans should expect GTA 6 to appear on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, while Playstation 4 and Xbox One will likely get nothing.

How about the PC? Experience has shown that video game consoles for Rockstar Games have priority over the home computer. For example, GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 were initially only released for the game consoles of their respective generation, while the PC release was a year away.

Gameplay: What does GTA 6 supposedly offer in terms of gameplay?

According to Tom Henderson – who is actually considered a Call of Duty or Battlefield expert – Rockstar should dare to do something new when it comes to the main character of GTA 6: We should be able to play both a male and a female character.

Smarter NPCs

According to a patent that Rockstar publisher Take-Two has filed, GTA 6 could have smarter and more self-reliant NPCs than previous games. Future titles from the publisher should move interactions or movements of its NPCs to a server.

Urban evolution

The same patent talks about the design of in-game cities, which the player can influence directly. Specifically, it should be about the fact that the player’s actions have an impact on the environment.

You can imagine that hypothetically speaking, your character in GTA 6 completes certain missions and thus, for example, ensures that a neighborhood becomes more prosperous. A more rudimentary concept was also used in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Map and game world: what should the open world offer?

From the insider report by Jason Schreier mentioned at the beginning, there are also a few details about the size of the game world: According to this, Rockstar Games should, at least for the release of the game, rely on a smaller in-game world than with GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2. After After the launch, however, the game itself and also the open world should be expanded in the course of several updates (sometimes even with entire large cities) – Schreier emphasizes this again in his report from July 2022. At the same time, GTA 6 should have significantly more interior rooms than in previous ones give games to explore.

Cryptocurrency as in-game payment

According to the established industry expert Tom Henderson in June 2021, GTA 6 should offer cryptocurrencies as in-game payment, among other things. In concrete terms, this means that players can be paid by certain clients with currencies à la Bitcoin if it is supposed to happen “quickly” and “untraceably”.
