  1. Your comments at the end of this video have aged really well with Elden Ring. I really hope the game is a paradigm shift for the industry towards the old way games were made.

Map markers and accessibility are great, but we've lost the sense of wonder that comes with video games as a result. The best part of video games as a kid was turning it on and just going. No map. no YouTube videos. No builds. You just played and figured it out.

  2. Love that at the end of the Ghost of Tsushima segment the ideal game Ralph describes is a dead ringer for Elden Ring, even down to the idea of not being the most refined game but taking risks for the purposes of innovating

  3. What if the next big AAA open action game had no map markers, and you had to talk to NPCs to find where stuff was?
What if all the bullshit and busy work was stripped out, and you just created space worth exploring?
What if there were no tutorials and you just had to figure stuff out as you went?
What if the world was governed by the immutable laws of physics and the solutions to puzzles lay not in finding keys, but in applying our common sense deductive thinking?

We got there. This is why ELDEN RING is gonna win GOTY 2022.

  4. What you said at the end about Ghost of Tsushima, how you'd hope developers would make the open world style without map markers and let the players figure it out… it seems Miyazaki heard you and we got Elden ring which is EXACTLY that, and its a home run.

  5. "What if the next big AAA open world action game had no map markers, and you to talk to NPCs to find where stuff was. What if all of the bullshit and busy work was stripped out, and you just created spaces worth exploring. What if there were no tutorials and you just had to figure stuff out as you went? Like immersive sims, what if the world was governed by the immutable laws of physics and the solutions to puzzles lay not in finding keys, but in applying our common sense deductive thinking."

Well SkillUp I think we got what you and a lot of people dreamed about: ELDEN RING

  6. I'm honestly really surprised you liked Horizon AT ALL. It's so poorly designed I figured you'd really hate it lol.

There's just nothing really special about it that overcomes any other open world game. I'm even more surprised you liked the combat since every machine can be beaten the exact same way beginning to end
