The Lightstream tweet was then shared by OBS, the open source software provider for video recording and live streaming. While OBS came first, Streamlabs took the name of its main product Streamlabs OBS (SLOBS).
“Near the launch of SLOBS, @streamlabs asked us to use the name OBS. We kindly asked them not to. They did it anyway and followed up by filing a trademark,” reads. on in the OBS tweet.
“We tried to sort this out privately and they were uncooperative every turn.”
We are often faced with confused users and even businesses who do not understand the difference between the two applications.
Support volunteers sometimes run into angry users asking for refunds. We had interactions with several companies who were unaware that our applications were separate.

The thread continues, explaining how many users and businesses confuse OBS and Streamlabs OBS and think they’re the same app because of the name.
“Legally, they have obeyed the terms of the GPL but they have repeatedly ignored the spirit of open source and to give back,” OBS said.
Elgato, a provider of streaming equipment including the Stream Deck app, also intervened with a tweet saying “know that feeling.” Streamlabs Studio allows users to control their stream from their phone, just like Elgato’s Stream Deck.

One of those streamers is Pokimane, one of the most popular creators on Twitch. “The Streamlabs had better resolve this whole issue thread or I’ll ask them to take my face off the platform + look to use another donation service,” she wrote on Twitter.
